Lutheran schools have existed in Australia since the first Lutheran settlers arrived in South Australia from Germany in 1839. Even before the SA government became formally involved in education, Lutheran communities established their own schools because they were concerned about the future of their children. They wanted to provide for the growth of their children spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically.
In 2012, the purchase of adjacent farmland was finalised to accommodate further growth, building new facilities for Science and Technologies, as well as modern and flexible learning spaces for Secondary students. The original farmhouse has now been replaced with a Kindergarten named ‘Farmhouse Kinder’, which officially launched in 2024.
The Lutheran school system has since grown to be one of the largest networks of independent schools in Australia, currently educating over 42,000 students in 86 Lutheran schools and 57 Early Childhood Centres throughout Australia. Good News Lutheran College is one of 16 Lutheran schools in Victoria.
Founded in 1997, the College has grown significantly from a small group of 24 Primary school students. After several years of planning and growth, the College opened its Secondary school in 2011. These Year 7 students then became the first graduating class in 2016.
With over 1,600 students across Prep-Year 12 and sustained demand for places at all year levels, the College launched the Mambourin Campus. In 2023, the Mambourin Campus officially commenced classes based on the Tarneit Campus. In 2025, students and teachers will officially move on-site to the Mambourin Campus. This is an exciting new chapter in the history of GNLC and for the wider Wyndham Vale community.
